A Thibodaux man was killed in Hahnville last week after his vehicle collided with a St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office transport van.
The crash occurred at 6:05 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17. Timothy Becnel, of 1873 Highway 307, was traveling south on LA 3127 when he entered the left turn lane in an attempt to get onto Highway 3142. Becnel crossed the northbound lanes of 3127 when he was hit by a transport van driven by Todd Sparks.
The van struck the center of the passenger’s side of Becnel’s vehicle. Becnel was wearing a seatbelt, but was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.
Sparks, the only occupant of the transport van, was treated and released from St. Charles Parish Hospital.
The crash is currently under investigation and alcohol is not suspected as a factor of the crash. However, a toxicology test is pending.
