Man dies in accidental shooting

A 19-year-old man was allegedly handling a firearm inside a vehicle when the gun discharged, which led to him being shot in the chest and passing away due to his injury, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
During the early morning hours of June 4, four people were traveling in a silver Honda Accord on WPA Road in Des Allemands, and Trent Byerly, 19, was handling a firearm. The gun discharged and Byerly was shot in the chest, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Byerly was transported to a local hospital where he passed away due to his injury.
Statements provided by the other occupants inside of the vehicle led to two people being arrested for obstruction of justice.
