Man who barricaded himself inside Montz home surrenders

A man who was barricaded inside his Montz home for several hours Tuesday (Feb. 20) surrendered to police peacefully, according to St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne.

Prior to his surrender, police were on the scene to negotiate with the man at his residence near the intersection of River Road and Hollywood Park Road. The situation began at approximately 10:18 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to St. Charles Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi.

Grimaldi said police were alerted to the situation by a family member of the man who was concerned for his safety. Investigators were able to make contact with the subject, who initially informed deputies that he was not exiting his residence.  The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Pontchartrain Levee District Police, were able to set a perimeter around the residence while investigators continued communications with the subject.

At approximately 2:22 p.m., the subject exited his residence and was detained without further incident. Grimaldi said the Sheriff’s Office currently does not have any criminal charges pending for the subject but that the incident is still under investigation.

All roads that were initially blocked during the incident are reopened and residents are no longer asked to remain indoors.
