With the holiday season fast approaching, Maison Décor again figures to be a hot spot for customers looking to purchase gifts for their friends and family.The Boutte store is filled with an eclectic mix of home décor items and personal gifts like Christmas books, Simply Noelle clothing, candles, decorative plates and wall plaques.
“We’re jam-packed. There are 4,000 square feet of gifts inside this store,” said Maison Décor owner Shane Matherne.
To further get into the Christmas spirit, Matherne said the store will hold its 17th annual Christmas Extravaganza next month, an after-hours party and sales event in which customers may enjoy, food and drinks while doing a little shopping and enjoying a lot of fun company.
“It gets bigger and bigger every year,” Matherne said. “We always hold it right after Thanksgiving, at 5 p.m. till right about midnight. We might actually ask a deputy to direct traffic that night because we’ve had cars lined up down the highway.
“It’s because of our great customers. They look forward to that time of year.”
Matherne said that hot holiday sellers include the store’s books, including those Christmas themed but also those centered around St. Charles Parish and New Orleans culture. The store’s cook books are filled with “old recipes people absolutely love,” Matherne said.
And with the holiday season comes the cold, which might direct customers to Maison Décor’s cast-iron firepits or chimineas (or clay outdoor fireplaces).
Maison Décor also has the largest selection of garden flags in the area and is the only authorized Yankee Candle dealer in St. Charles Parish and the largest independent dealer of Yankee Candles, and the fall selection of those are hitting the shelves.
The store’s customized wall plaques offer something for everyone, displaying fleur de lis, whimsical phrases and a whole lot of region and state pride. Those especially make for great gifts, Matherne said. There are also plates displaying artist renderings of famous local landmarks, be it in St. Charles Parish or New Orleans — for example, displays of both the old and new Hahnville High School buildings, or a depiction of Rock’N’Bowl.
“We’re ready for Christmas season,” Matherne said. “We’ve taken some suggestions from customers, brought new stuff in, and that will all be introduced after Halloween. We’ll be ready for them.”
Of course, there are also the fountains: there are more than 700 of them within the store’s total selection and they come in a selection of 30 different colors. A wide selection of statues, patio furniture and other popular items are available for those looking to add a little flavor to their residence. The store offers delivery and installation services.
