Local family spreads Christmas magic with mailbox to Santa

When Kyle and Amanda Wardwell saw it in Lowe’s they knew it was perfect – a mailbox that could receive children’s letters to Santa and ensure that each child received a reply from the jolly man himself.

Well … not without a little work from the Wardwells and their 5-year-old daughter Karsyn of course.

Kyle said it seemed like the perfect year to spread a little Christmas magic.

“My wife and I have always had a passion for children and always wanted to give back,” he said. “With it being such a horrible for year for a lot of families, it seems like a perfect time to do something like this.”

The couple moved into Luling’s Willowdale subdivision in 2014, and this year is the first that they’ve decorated their Beaupre Drive home for Christmas. Kyle posted the magic mailbox offer on the neighborhood’s Facebook page at the beginning of the month, and since then he’s said quite a few families have come by the drop off their letters.

“If your child or children want to write a letter to Santa, we are sure Santa will respond and possibly include a little holiday gift such as candy cane or something holiday related,” he said. “Just include a return address. We think this will be a great thing for the kids to enjoy.”

Kyle said the mailbox will be checked daily and replies will be delivered or mailed to each home.

“If it’s a hit, next year we will continue to grow this,” he said.
