Lawmen killed in the line of duty are remembered in emotional ceremony

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s office held its annual memorial service at the courthouse for law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The event recognized 150 police officers who were murdered nationwide in 2006.

“We are here to honor those in our profession who have fallen in the line of duty, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us” said Sheriff Greg Champagne.

“We do that with an open heart. We honor their families, we support their families, we honor their memory.”

No St. Charles Parish lawmen were killed in the line of duty last year, but four in Louisiana perished, Capt. Patrick Yoes said.
