Krewe of Lul will roll with largest number of floats in years

With 30 floats and approximately 100 units total ready to roll, the Krewe of Lul rides Saturday, March 1 at noon.

The 30 floats are the largest number the krewe has had in the past few years said Krewe of Lul parade organizer Debbie Dufresne Vial, who added that the parade will include about a dozen dance teams, local fire departments, festival queens, Slingshots, Jeep and bicycle riding clubs and the Hahnville High School band, ROTC, cheerleaders and dance team will be among the many paradegoers can count on seeing along the route.

St. Charles Parish Hospital’s Mr. Peanut Butter will collect jars of peanut butter on the route as is tradition.

“We’re very excited,” said Vial. “It’s something I think everyone looks forward too. People like to come out and spend time not just with their immediate family, but also a lot of people have family members traveling in for the ball and the parade. It’s always a good day of fun with family.”

This is the Krewe of Lul’s 48th year, and the parade will roll down its traditional path.  The parade will begin at the Winnwood Shopping Center and roll from Hwy. 52 to Hwy.18, Sugarhouse Road, Angus Drive and back to Hwy 52.

While last year, contingencies had to be planned out due to ongoing road work on Paul Maillard Road (though by the parade date last year it would be a non-issue), this year the coast is completely clear.

“We’re ecstatic about that. Last year we were wondering what we’d be able to do, communicating everything to everyone who was going to be involved, will we have to line up differently … so it’s a great sigh of relief (to not have that),” said Vial.

This year Stanley Roy Dufrene and Sandra Bernard Dufrene will reign as King and Queen and Lorel Gonzales will reign as Grand Marshal.
