Killona man accused of savagely beating Chihuahua, leading to dog’s death

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who allegedly beat a small dog to death at a Killona residence on Monday, Feb. 16.

Rashard C. Poche, 37, is accused of throwing a six-pound male Chihuahua against a wall and then stomping on it after becoming frustrated with the dog’s barking, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Poche’s girlfriend was temporarily taking care of the animal for another family member, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange said.

After the attack, the dog was taken to Riverlands Animal Hospital in Laplace for treatment. The dog was euthanized after attempts were made to treat it for head trauma, neck injuries and a state of shock.

“I just imagine this really angers a lot of people, a lot of animal lovers, when you have a pet that can’t defend themselves,” LaGrange said.

A warrant was issued for Poche’s arrest on charges of cruelty to animals.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s office is asking for help locating Poche, whose last known address is at 121 Killona Drive in Killona. Anyone with information can call the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 783-6807.
