Katrina blows Alligator Festival away

Rotary Club plans Gator Ganza to

The annual Alligator Festival will be replaced by ‘Gator Ganza’ to be held February 18 at Dougie V’s on River Road in Luling. While the club is disappointed they were forced to cancel their annual fundraising event, members are looking forward to the fun and activities the Gator Ganza will provide for ticket holders.

Hurricane Katrina caused the popular Alligator Festival to be cancelled. Members of the Rotary Club of St. Charles came up with a replacement event, ‘Gator Ganza’, that will help the club raise money for their efforts in the community.

The event is scheduled for February 18, at Dougie V’s, 13899 River Road, Luling, at 7p.m. The event will feature a $10,000 giveaway, door prizes, dancing, music, an open bar, food and silent and live auctions. Some of the items available for live and silent auction are an autographed basketball by Shaquille O’Neil, a Destin Vacation, and a guided fishing trip for four in Grand Isle.

The club stresses that without the annual Alligator Festival to raise money, the club’s community activities are in jeopardy. Members hope that the ‘Gator Ganza’ event will help bring in much needed funds. “We work very hard to plan the Alligator Festival, this was an easier event to plan and we exceeded our expectations, selling all the tickets available for the event,” said the Gator Ganza Chairperson Lauren Lemmon. She went on to say, “We just want everyone to have a good time raising money for the community, especially for the needy.”

The members of the Rotary Club of St. Charles take pride in their efforts in the community. The club is pleased that they were able to plan an event that will provide fun and entertainment for all attendees while raising money for worthy causes within St. Charles Parish.
