A New Orleans man was robbed at gunpoint in Destrehan by a person he met through Instagram, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The 38-year-old victim picked up his new friend on Carriage Lane in Destrehan on Thursday, but after the man got into the passenger seat, he said that they needed to wait for his girlfriend to arrive.
The would-be-robber played on his cell phone until a masked man in a black sweatshirt and blue jeans approached the driver’s window. He pulled out a gun and motioned for the victim to roll down his window.
At the same time, the man in the passenger seat pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim, according to Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
With two guns pointed at his face, the victim handed over his cell phone and the money that he was carrying. The two gunmen then fled the scene and the victim drove to a nearby business to call 911.
Yoes said the incident is under investigation and anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Det. Jeremy Pitchford at (985) 783-1135 or (985) 783-6807.
