Inmate’s sudden death blamed on natural causes

An inmate in the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility died of “apparent natural causes,” St. Charles Sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes told the Herald-Guide. A 24-year-old black male passed out as he and other inmates entered the exercise yard. Medical staff at the prison as well as Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the inmate to St. Charles parish Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the inmate is being withheld until the family can be notified.
