Illegal immigrant guilty of brutal ’06 hotel rape

A 28-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico was sentenced to 35 years of hard labor after pleading guilty to a forcible rape that occurred at a local hotel in February of 2006.

Marcos A. Jiminez, who resided at 121 Lakewood Dr. Apt. 73 at the time of his arrest, was charged with raping a woman at knifepoint before taking an undetermined amount of cash from the hotel.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said they ascertained Jiminez’s identity from the hotel’s surveillance camera.

Sheriff Greg Champagne said at the time that Jiminez was living in an apartment with six other illegal Mexican immigrants. It appears as if the group was living and working in the parish during reconstruction efforts after Hurricane Katrina, he said.

Back in 2007, Jiminez was deemed incompetent to stand trial and doctors thought that he might have been mentally disabled. After the ruling, Jiminez underwent medical rehabilitation.

During a competency hearing in July 2009, doctors said that Jiminez was not mentally disabled, but was instead confused and scared at the time of his 2007 sanity commission, according to his lawyer, David Moyer.

Jiminez then pled guilty to forcible rape in Judge M. Lauren Lemmon’s court on Oct. 7.
