A woman sought in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred on the Spillway Bridge last week has turned herself in to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred at 8:45 p.m. last Thursday on Airline Highway. According to the three victims who were riding together, a vehicle traveling behind them in the eastbound lane rammed into the back of their car.
The victims followed the hit-and-run drive, who police have identified as Kimberly Albrecht, for about a half mile before they say Albrecht pulled her vehicle over. She then got of the SUV, walked to the victims’ passenger side window and looked at the three women inside before running back to her vehicle and speeding off, according to the crash report.
The victims, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, were able to get a license plate number. Authorities say that led them to Albrecht, whose address was unknown at the time.
According to Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman with the Sheriff’s Office, an attorney representing Albrecht called authorities on Monday and said that Albrecht would turn herself in.
However, after Albrecht failed to do so by Wednesday morning, the Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for her arrest. Albrecht turned herself in later that day, Yoes said.
She faces charges of hit and run, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and having an expired driver’s license.
