HHS Class of 1980 rallies around classmate after wife’s death

Nancy Parker’s tragic death has left heartache across the area, particularly in St. Charles Parish where her husband, Glynn Boyd, grew up. Now, Boyd’s Hahnville High Class of 1980 wants to help a classmate and honor the memory of his late wife.

“We want to do something for Glynn and his family,” said Julie Stephany. “We all wanted to do something.”

Classmates are collecting donations for one of Parker’s favorite charities, – St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for research.

Funds will be accepted for six weeks and a donation will be made in Parker’s memory.

Boyd, a Boutte native,  married Fox 8 TV anchor Nancy Parker in 1994. Parker was killed in a plane crash on Aug. 16 along with stunt pilot Franklin J.P. Augustus. She was working on a story about Augustus when the aircraft went down near the New Orleans Lakefront Airport. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Stephany said they’ve expressed condolences to Boyd and attended memorial services for Parker in New Orleans Friday.

“We’re sorry for his loss,” she said. “She was an angel.”

Parker, who accompanied Boyd to class reunions and functions, was described by Stephany as someone who “always talked to everybody. She was kind and nice … just a good soul.”

She described Boyd as “a good dude. He was well liked … personable.” They were in the band together in high school.

In Boyd’s statement on his Facebook page, he said his heart is shattered and the most wonderful person in his life is gone.

“She had so much to give,” he states. “So smart, so talented, she was my everything. I just don’t know. I really don’t. No man, but God could’ve taken Nancy from my arms. I loved her and she loved me. We were best friends.”

Boyd said he would trade places with her right now.

“She was our road map, our compass, our guiding light,” he said. “I’m lost without my wife. My faith tells me joy will come in the morning. My joy will come when I see Jesus and my Nancy face to face.”

Boyd is a public information officer at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and former longtime journalist for WGNO ABC 26. He is a HHS graduate and attended Nicholls State University.

Stephany said they’re contacting fellow class members for donations, and have invited HHS alumni to contribute to the fund for St. Jude’s.
