The St. Charles Herald-Guide won 18 awards from the Louisiana Press Association for the paper’s work in 2013, including Best Editorial Page and Best Lifestyles Coverage.
The Herald-Guide’s Camera Shootout Contest was also named Best Web Project while the online photo galleries, loaded with pictures of football players, cheerleaders, dancers, band members and fans, was named Best Multimedia Element.
“Once again we are honored that judges thought so much of our work,” Herald-Guide Publisher Jonathan Menard said. “We pride ourselves on providing excellent coverage of St. Charles Parish, and we were particularly pleased that we received awards for our online elements that involve the community, such as our photo contest and football galleries.”
The Herald-Guide also won second place in Best News Coverage, General Excellence and Best Overall Sports Coverage. The paper finished third in Best Website.
Lifestyles Editor Kyle Barnett took home three individual awards. He placed second in Best Feature Story and Best Sports Story, while coming in third in Best Breaking News Story.
The Herald-Guide also won seven awards for advertising, sweeping first, second and third place in the Best Online Advertising category. Additionally, the paper finished second in Best Online Advertising Campaign, Best Ad Campaign and Most Effective Use of Graphic Design.
“The Louisiana Press Association received 3,289 entries this year and it’s great knowing your St. Charles Herald-Guide newspaper can compete and win awards on the state level,” Advertising Director Joe Lopez said. “Our staff is our greatest asset; they are both creative and committed to providing the people of St. Charles award-winning editorials and graphic design.”
The Herald-Guide competed in Division 4 against 24 other newspapers from across the state.
