Closure expected to cause significant traffic delays at peak hours
One of the Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge southbound lanes will be closed starting 8 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 31) until roadwork is done to the bridge deck and overlay, which the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) projects will be June 15.
DOTD Engineer Alan Weber said the closure will be at southbound I-310 from U.S. 61 to LA 3127.
The bridge will be open northbound and southbound, two lanes heading northbound and one lane heading southbound for the duration of work. Two-way traffic will be shifted to either side of the bridge depending on which lanes are being overlaid.
“It is expected that southbound motorists will experience significant delays during the morning and evening peak hours,” Weber said.
Alternate routes for crossing the Mississippi River are U.S. 90 (Huey P. Long Bridge) or LA 3213 (Veterans Memorial Bridge in the Gramercy-Wallace area).
The DOTD also asks motorists to drive with caution through the construction site, and near work crews and equipment.
