Hahnville Band invited to D.C. for 4th of July Parade

Group needs donations to march on national stage

The Hahnville High School Marching Band has been invited to march at the National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. on July 4. Hahnville is only one of 3 bands in Louisiana that was chosen, as the invitation comes directly from governor’s office. A recommendation for Hahnville came from the Louisiana Music Educator’s Office.HHS Band Director David Rosenthal said the invitation was an honor, particularly to showcase the bands talents on a national stage as they march down Constitution Ave. and past numerous national monuments. He also felt that it was an honor to represent St. Charles Parish and the people of Louisiana, especially in the aftermath of two major hurricanes.

However, he did note that he was caught off guard by the invitation, as the band already has a trip booked for Orlando.

Although the band has been invited, they have not accepted. Rosenthal said that it is contingent on the group raising the adequate funds. He said that the trip to the nation’s capitol would cost approximately $120,000, and the band will have to begin fundraising efforts immediately to afford the trip.

Band boosters are calling on area businesses to help send the band to Washington D.C. “We are still in the planning stages, so we really don’t know how we will raise the money yet,” said Rosenthal, adding that this is largest amount the band has ever tried to amass. He feels confident that people of the region and the band will find a way to help them make it to the capitol.

Those wishing to see the band can do so at both of St. Charles Parish’s Mardi Gras parades.
