Gun, cash stolen in rash of Montz car burglaries

Last week, five vehicles were burglarized in Montz and robbers made off with items including wallets, a gun, cell phones, cameras and even cash.

The burglaries occurred on Westover Lane, Jenny Court, Mary Court and Liza Court.

During the summer, St. Charles Parish routinely experiences a rise in vehicle burglaries. In the past, burglars have canvassed an area searching for unlocked cars. In Montz, four of the vehicles were forcefully entered by a rear window being broken. Only one of the vehicles was unlocked.

St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said it appears the thieves looked inside the vehicles with flashlights to determine if valuables were inside before breaking the window.

“We urge everyone in the area and elsewhere to be vigilant, remove all valuables from inside of your cars,” Champagne said. “It is not unusual for thieves such as these to hit another neighborhood soon thereafter”.
