Grant allows improved water flow, fire rating in Paradis

PARADIS – A Louisiana Community Development Block Grant will fund the installation of a 12-inch water main along LA 631 (Old Spanish Trail), providing improved water flows and better fire ratings in the area.

Parish officials applied for the $675,950 grant in 2007, which will provide for approximately 8,700 feet of piping to run approximately from Fourth to Ruth streets.

The project would be a continuation of the water line project along Hwy. 631 that will wrap up Dec. 5. An older 8-inch cast iron line has been replaced by 12-inch PVC piping for over 1,500 feet beginning at Paul Maillard Road and ending at Fourth Street.

“This grant should cover the remainder of the cast iron replacement and put us in a great position to drastically improve water flows to Paradis, Des Allemands and Bayou Gauche,” St. Charles Parish Waterworks Director Robert Brou said. “Because these projects have many interconnections, it will allow for an improved fire rating for those areas as well.”
