Garden shears used in brutal attack

Victim rushed to hospital after being struck in face, arms

A Hahnville man was arrested after allegedly kicking in the front door to an acquaintance’s home and striking him several times with garden shears last Friday, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Johnathan Jackson, 35, of 219 Pine St., was charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated burglary and remaining after being forbidden in a residence.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dwayne LaGrange said that Jackson knew the victim but police were not sure what his motives were for the attack.

“(Jackson) was able to gain entry and the victim woke up due to the loud noise. The perpetrator began to swing a pair of garden shears at the victim,” LaGrange said.

A relative of the victim who lived nearby interceded and was able to get the garden shears away from Jackson, then Jackson fled the scene, LaGrange said. Jackson was apprehended the next day.

The victim suffered injuries to his face and arms, LaGrange said, and was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital by ambulance.
