Entergy gets approval to build $869M power station in Montz

The Louisiana Public Service Commission approved construction of Entergy’s $869 million power station in Montz on Wednesday (Nov. 16).

The approval clears the way to build the natural gas-fired, 980-megawatt gas plant in St. Charles Parish.

The plant could be in operation by June 2019, according to Entergy.

“Entergy Louisiana’s investment in the St. Charles Power Station will power the lives of Louisiana residents for generations to come,” said Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana. “We appreciate the Louisiana Public Service Commission’s comprehensive review and decision on our proposal to build this much-needed plant.

The project will generate an estimated 2,000 direct and indirect jobs a year across the state, as well as could increase Louisiana business sales by $1.4 billion, according to Louisiana economist Loren Scott.

The power plant will directly employ about 27 people, according to Entergy.
