Students at Hahnville High School were recognized by Dow Chemical Company last week for their outstanding academic achievements.

On Tuesday, May 2, a total of 73 students received recognition at the Hahnville High School Scholastic Reception for maintaining straight A’s for 3 consecutive quarters. This outstanding achievement of 73 students is one the largest since the program’s introduction over 20 years ago.

The program consisted of remarks by Stanley Dufrene and Sonya Davis of Dow, the St. Charles Parish School Superintendent, Dr. Rodney LaFon, St. Charles Parish President, Albert Laque and Hahnville High School Principal, Barbara Fuselier.

“Our mission at Dow is to constantly improve what is essential to human progress by mastering science and technology,” St. Charles Operations Human Resource Leader Sonya Davis said. “We believe that education and knowledge is the key to our success.”

The Scholastic Excellence program was initiated 20 years ago by Union Carbide as part of the Partners in Education program with Hahnville High School and has been recognizing outstanding students ever since. Dow has a long history of strong support for communities where it has a presence and a strong commitment to supporting and improving public education.

Besides the acknowledgment from their peers, parents and teachers, the 73 recipients also received gifts furnished by Dow to commemorate the occasion during the reception at Hahnville High School.
