Dow awards more than $12,000 to local schools

The recipients of the 2006 Dow Educational Enhancement Grants were invited to attend a grant reception at the St. Charles Operations Site recently. Dow awarded $12,725 to teachers from seven schools in St. Charles Parish. “We are proud to be able to support teachers in our local community,” St. Charles Operations Site Leader Nawzer Parakh said. The grants were awarded on a competitive basis to K-12 teachers in the tri-parish area and will be positively impacting hundreds of local students.

They were evaluated by a Grant Review Panel, which consists of individuals representing the educational system, the community and Dow. The proposals were graded in four areas, and those receiving the highest scores were funded.

“This program enables Dow to provide funding for education projects that promote academic excellence in the areas of science and mathematics,” said Stan Dufrene, St. Charles Operations Community Relations Manager.

“The projects chosen are innovative and outstanding. We are proud to be able to support these educators as they work to build student interest in science and math.”St Charles parish teachers and schools receiving the grants include: Roseann Jarrell, Allemands Elementary; Kristen Weber and Jessica Fletcher, Lakewood Elementary; Craig Howat, Luling Elementary; Stephanie Chapman and Becky Barnes, R.K. Smith Middle; Barry Guillot, Harry Hurst; Andrea Lambert, St. Charles Borromeo; Curtis Montet, Destrehan High.
