After an undefeated regular season assured the Destrehan Wildcats of the No.1 playoff seed in 5A, the team decided to take advantage of their lofty status.
Over the course of the last month, the Wildcats have made a mockery of their postseason competition, opening up the playoffs with a 37-12 victory over West Jefferson then following that with a 42-14 stomping of Carencro. After advancing to the semifinals with a 41-7 beating of St. Paul, the Wildcats knocked out Westgate 59-7 in their most impressive contest of the year.
Now, Destrehan is preparing to take on Acadiana on Saturday in the biggest game of the program’s history. And while the Wildcats have made it look easy so far, they will be facing a Ram squad that is making its third straight appearance in the 5A title game.
Though football games are always full of surprises, there is one concrete fact that will emerge from the Dome Saturday, Destrehan will be ready to play.
