Destrehan man shot at his home following traffic incident

A shooting Tuesday which saw a 51-year-old man shot at his Destrehan home stemmed from an argument following an alleged hit and run, according to St. Charles Parish police.

The shooting occurred at the victim’s home in the 100 block of Villere Drive in Destrehan, just across the street from Cypress Lakes Country Club.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident began with a traffic crash on Ormond Boulevard just south of Villere Drive at approximately 4 P.M. A black Ford pickup truck collided with a silver Mercedes.

The 51-year-old man did not stop after the crash and proceeded to his residence on Villere Drive just across from Cypress Lakes Country Club, the Sheriff’s Office said. The other man, 78-years-old and the driver of the truck, followed the first to his home while calling 911.

Once both men were at that scene, the situation escalated, resulting in an altercation and the victim being shot in the abdominal area. He was airlifted to University Hospital and after undergoing surgery he is listed in guarded, but stable condition.

Detectives are investigating and reviewing multiple sources of available video footage, as well as interviewing witnesses.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged by the Sheriff’s Office to call Detective Jenni Barrette at (985) 783-6807 or (985) 783-1135.
