Destrehan man allegedly stabs spouse with screwdriver

A Destrehan man was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and domestic abuse battery for allegedly striking his girlfriend and stabbing her with a screwdriver.

Around 4:42 p.m. Aug. 4, Brent Alexander, 31, of 82 Carriage Lane, Destrehan, returned to a Gretna residence upset and began striking the woman, whose name was withheld, according to the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office.

The woman retreated to the master bedroom with two children, locked the door and stayed there until she fell asleep.

By 11 p.m. the same day, the woman told police she was awoken by Alexander, who apparently struck her with a coffee table and shattered the glass top, sending shards on her legs and stomach.

The woman also told police that he then held “an unknown sharp object” to her neck and then stabbed her with a screwdriver multiple times on her right left.

The woman was taken to St. Charles Parish Hospital where she was treated and released.

Both children were placed with a family friend.Alexander was arrested and charged by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. He made bail and was released.
