
James Maddin, 65, of Des Allemands was killed Tuesday (Jan. 8) when the 2002 Ford Crown Victoria he was driving struck an oncoming 18-wheeler truck at U.S. Highway 90 and Cypress Street.
The two-vehicle accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m.
Maddin was traveling north on Cypress Street and failed to yield when he apparently struck the oncoming 2014 Freightliner truck driven by Jerry Bishop, 47, of Water Valley, Miss., according to Louisiana State Police. Maddin was struck on the driver’s side and taken to Ochsner St. Anne Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Bishop was not injured.
The crash is under investigation with a toxicology test on Maddin pending with the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Bishop submitted to a breath test, which showed no alcohol present, according to State Police. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
