Deputies on scene of Destrehan murder

A woman was found stabbed to death in her Destrehan home and her mother, who walked in on the attack, was rushed to the hospital with what appears to be stab wounds.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is now seeking the victim’s boyfriend in connection with the attack.

The suspect in the murder, 34-year-old Bruce Bourgeois Jr., had spoken to his live-in girlfriend’s mother earlier in the day and asked for a ride to his probation officer. He said that his girlfriend was sick and couldn’t bring him, according to Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

When the mother arrived to 318 Madewood Drive, she asked to see her daughter but Bourgeois refused to let her do so, LaGrange said. Instead, Bourgeois allegedly attacked the woman, but she was eventually able to escape to a home across the street. Though her injuries were so severe that they prevented her from speaking, the mother handed the neighbor a note that said police needed to respond to 318 Madewood Drive.

Deputies responded to the scene at 9 a.m. and found the woman’s daughter dead in the bathroom from what appears to be multiple stab wounds.

The mother was rushed to the hospital. LaGrange said her condition is unknown at this time and it was unclear if she would recover from her injuries.

The victim had two children with the man suspected of her murder. LaGrange said that the children have been moved to a secure location.

Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for Bourgeois, who is considered armed and dangerous. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. He is believed to be driving a grey Toyota Scion XD with license plate number VTE 461.

Anyone knowing Bourgeois’ whereabouts should call 911.
