Council awards $2.8M DA annex construction bid

The St. Charles Parish Council awarded the contract to build the District Attorney Annex to Boasso Construction of Meraux.

Bids were accepted for the $2.8 million project on June 9. The building will adjoin the St. Charles Parish Courthouse in Hahnville on land owned by the parish.

Murray Architects is the architect for the two-story building at 15045 River Road.

The planned 5,000 square-foot structure will provide office space, employee protection and storage capacity for the District Attorney’s Office.

Parish DA Joel Chaisson II, who got council approval for the facility in October of 2015, requested the building to centralize operations. Also, Chaisson said the location was warranted because of cramped working space and privacy issues on sensitive investigations.

The DA further stated the annex would cut monthly expenses by about $10,000 in rent, utilities and maintenance of two satellite locations (River Road and  Paul Maillard Road).

The DA Office is contributing $50,000 in revenue to the project.
