Construction will take bike path from New Sarpy to Spillway

Walkers, bikers and joggers will soon be able to travel from New Sarpy to the Bonnet Carre Spillway on a new paved path after the council approved two construction contracts for the East Bank Multi-Use Mississippi Levee path.

Phase 4 of the project will consist of a paved path on top of the levee from the current access ramp at Harding Street in New Sarpy to Apple Street in Norco. The fifth phase will take the path from Apple Street to the East Guide Levee of the Bonnet Carre Spillway.

Three C’s Properties was the low bidder for both projects. The path from New Sarpy to Apple Street will cost a total of $907, 540 with the parish only having to pay around $45,000. The state is paying the rest of the bill.

The path from Apple Street to the Bonnet Carre Spillway will cost $379,809 with the parish paying 5 percent, or $19,000.

The parish also received a grant in the amount of $973,800 to fund construction of final phase of the project that will stretch the path from the Spillway into St. John Parish.

“The completion of this path along the entire stretch of East Bank levee in our parish shows the commitment of state and parish leaders, over many years, to provide more recreation and transportation opportunities in our area,” Parish President V.J. St. Pierre said.
