Cochran leads St. Charles Parish prez candidates by raising $151K

With just days remaining until the Oct. 24 election primary, Larry Cochran substantially leads his opponents in political contributions with $151,549 in the race for St. Charles Parish.

Candidate John Cornwell came in with the second highest campaign fund declared, although the $79,363 includes a $40,050 loan. Candidate Terry Authement reported $20,542 in contributions and Carolyn Schexnaydre, $17,315, according to campaign contribution reports filed with the Louisiana Ethics Administration.

At $151,549 in contributions, including $4,509 in-kind contributions as of his last filing date, Cochran has exceeded V.J. St. Pierre’s $121,712 announced in October 2007 when St. Pierre ran for parish president with no incumbent in the race. St. Pierre has met his term limit as did then Parish President Albert Laque in 2007, which drew competitors for the office.

Cochran’s fund raising started early with his first report filed last year with a coverage period that runs through Oct. 4 of this year.

As of last filing, he had spent $138,244 on this election.Contributions from businesses, such as engineering and construction firms that contributed $1,000 or less each, make up a considerable amount of Cochran’s election war chest.

His larger contributors of $2,500 or more include Frickey Brothers Construction of Paradis, Metro Engineering of Denham Springs, and S- Kuyrkendall & Associates of Baton Rouge, All South Consulting Engineers of Metairie, Barowka & Bonura Engineers and Consultants of Metairie, BLD Services of Kenner; Burk-Kleinpeter Inc. of New Orleans, Danny Hebert of Luling, Meyer Engineers of Metairie, Professional Service Industries of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., Renton Investments of Kenner.

This group also includes Elos Environmental LLC of Hammond, Linfield Hunter & Junius Inc. of Metairie, Frederico Martinez of Gretna, Philip Rebowe of Gretna and T. Baker Smith LLC of Houma.

His largest expenditure in this report was $20,000 to the Printer’s Wholesale Group of Metairie.

Cochran also got PAC money and political contributions from the Butler Snow Political Action Committee in Baton Rouge, Lance Marino Campaign Fund of Norco, Campaign Fund Albert Laque, as well as from the Friends of Brian Brogle of Destrehan (parish coroner), and Federico Martinez, recently retired CEO of St. Charles Parish Hospital.

Cornwell declared $79,363 in contributions and the loan for Jan. 1 to Sept. 14. The total also included 7,407 in-kind contributions. As of his last report filed, he had spent $39,357 on the election.

His larger contributors of $1,000 or more include K-L Properties of Norco and Ashton Plantation Estates of Harvey, Burk-Kleinpeter Inc. of New Orleans, Terri Darensbourg of Hahnville and John Fontenot of St. Rose.

Cornwell also received contributions from the V.J. St. Pierre Jr. Campaign Fund and Lance Marino Campaign Fund.

Authement raised $20,543 in contributions from April 1 to Oct. 4, including $4,592 in-kind contributions.

As of his last filing, he had spent $11,160 on the election.His larger contributors of $1,000 or more include AIMS GROPU Inc. of Metairie, Bayou Fleet Partnership of Hahnville, Burk-Kleinpeter Inc. of New Orleans, Pete Harmon of Luling, Meyers Electric Inc. of Metairie, Angelo Puglise of Luling, Leon Vial, Paul B. Candies of Des Allemands, John Vial of New Orleans, M.J. Nanette Vial of Hahnville and Thomans E. Vial of Hahnville.

Schexnaydre raised $17,315 from Jan. 6 to Oct. 4, including a $2,000 loan. She did not receive any in-kind contributions. She had spent $11,506 on her campaign as of her last filing.

Her larger contributors of $1,000 or more include Randall Abadie of Destrehan, Bayou Fleet of Hahnville, Burk-Kleinpeter of New Orleans, Talon Contracting of New Orleans, Herman Weston of Destrehan, She also received contributions from Parish President V.J. St. Pierre.
