Chihuahuas worse than pit bulls when it comes to biting

-SAYS ST. CHARLES PARISH ANIMAL SHELTER

Forget “ferocious breeds” like pit bulls, Doberman pinschers and German shepherds – the bitingest dogs in St. Charles Parish are cute little house and lap dogs: Chihuahuas, Llaso apso’s, cocker spaniels and shih tzus. “There is one exception – the chow chow, which is a big, sturdy dog and right up there with the little guys when it comes to biting,” says St. Charles Parish Animal Control Director LeeAnn Matherne.

“The bitingest dogs tend to be small dogs that snap at children under the age of 5 – kids who pull their tails or squeeze them too hard just trying to love them,” she tells the Herald-Guide.

“The little dogs feel more theatened and helpless than a larger dog would, and they nip.

“The chow chow, well, I don’t know. It just seems like we have some very aggressive blood lines in this neck of the woods.”
