Charges dropped against Marrero man in alleged rape of Luling woman

Charges brought against a Marrero man accused in July of raping a Luling woman were recently dropped, officially closing the case.

Michael Sean Granier, 40, of Marrero was arrested and charged with forcible rape of a Luling woman — whose name was withheld by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office to protect her identity — after Granier allegedly visited her residence to pick up an unidentified item, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

When the woman went to her bedroom to retrieve the item, Granier was accused of following and then sexually assaulting her, according to the police report.

The woman told police she tried to fight him off, but was overpowered.

Those charges were refused at his Aug. 11 arraignment.Granier faced a jail sentence with hard labor of five to 40 years had he been convicted. He had been held on a $100,000 bond.
