Due to a lack of evidence, a Luling man accused of killing his father is no longer facing charges in connection with the crime.
Stanley Robinson Jr., 21, was arrested last November after his father, 39-year-old Stanley Robinson Sr., was shot inside his home. A woman who was in the bathroom of the home told authorities she heard the father and son arguing, followed by gunshots.
When she left the bathroom, the woman found Stanley Robinson Sr. lying on the floor with gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.Robinson Jr. was quickly apprehended, but was originally found unfit to stand trial because he suffered from auditory hallucinations and religious delusions, according to a psychiatrist who examined him.
Robinson was sent to the East Louisiana Health System where he was treated with antipsychotic medication that seemed to restore his competency. Following that, he was charged with manslaughter in connection with his father’s shooting death.However, the St. Charles Parish District Attorney’s Office recently nolle prossed the manslaughter charge due to lack of evidence.
“In evaluating the evidence collected to date in this matter, the District Attorney’s Office has concluded that there is not sufficient evidence at this time to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt at trial,” First Assistant District Attorney Juan Byrd said in a statement. “The investigation of this matter remains open with the Sheriff’s Office; as such, our office will have no further comment at this time on this case.”
Robinson remains incarcerated in the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on unrelated charges of drug distribution, aggravated assault and obscenity.
