Car hit by ‘random’ gunfire on Hwy. 90

Police investigating

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating complaints of random gunfire on Highway 90, which included a vehicle being struck by a bullet.

Last Thursday, at about 6 p.m., a jogger on Mitchell Lane reported hearing what he believed to be gunshots near Highway 90 in Des Allemands, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Soon after, a motorist traveling on Highway 90 at the WPA Road intersection told police that she heard a  popping noise as a light colored SUV, believed to be a Yukon or Suburban, passed her in the westbound lane. The woman stopped her car and discovered a bullet hole in the passenger side of her vehicle.

Because the SUV was headed west, authorities in St. Charles contacted the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. That’s when they discovered that there were three incidents where buildings were struck by gunfire along Highway 90 in Lafourche.

Though no one was injured in any of the reported shootings, both agencies are actively investigating the apparent random gunfire.

Anyone with information concerning this matter is urged to dial 911 or call Det. Erik Brass at (985)783-1135.
