Business exchange offers networking to boost growth

Tuesday’s expo is everyone’s business

St. Charles Parish business owners will have the opportunity to network at an SCP Business Exchange for large and small local businesses.

The exchange will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Edward A. Dufresne Community Center, 274 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling.

“It’s important to provide networking for the business community in order to grow our economy and encourage businesses to utilize their purchasing dollars locally. They must first learn about the goods and services actually available in St. Charles Parish,” said Parish President Larry Cochran.

Cochran said the networking event is intended to bring together and start a dialogue between local business leaders and operators.

“It is widely known that business and industry are driving forces in our parish,” he said. “In addition to building relationships between our businesses and parish governmental agencies, we hope to start a conversation about rebuilding a local business association at this event.”

Cochran said area businesses also will discuss the possibility of resuming a business association.

“I only hope to have an honest conversation about the idea of a local business association,” he said. “On the campaign trail and since I’ve taken office, I’ve heard from a number of local business operators who have expressed their interest to participate in this type of group.”

Cochran said the input he seeking is whether the majority of area businesses want to participate in an association and, if so, what should be the purpose of the group.

Attendees are asked to bring business cards and post their support of the event using the hashtag#ShopStCharles.
