Burglars nabbed on Lakewood Drive

Subjects found with burglary tools

Two Waggaman men were arrested by deputy David Hitzman, in the early morning hours on Monday, Aug. 21. Brandon Naquin, 18, of Waggaman, was arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property at 312 Lakewood Dr., Luling.  Ryan Hebert, 17, of 33 Imogene St., Waggaman, was arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools at the same address.

Sheriff Champagne said that deputy Hitzman’s vigilance in pursuing neighborhood burglers led to these arrests.

The two individuals ages 17 and 18 were arrested around 3 a.m. for the crimes of possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.  The perpetrators admitted that they were in the area to break into automobiles and steal stereo equipment.  The deputy spotted the subjects walking down Lakewood Drive and noticed that they appeared to be very nervous.  Upon stopping the subjects, Hitzman discovered two screwdrivers, a center punch and a small flashlight in their pants pockets. The deputy also located stolen stereo equipment in their vehicle. The two are from Waggaman and had parked their car nearby while proceeding on foot to burglarize vehicles.

“While this arrest may have prevented numerous residents from waking up victims, I  hope it drives home my point that we have to continue to be alert and lock our cars and remove any valuables from them,” said Champagne.  “If we can show would be thieves that we are taking widespread precautions they will look elsewhere.”
