Bridge City man gets 20 years for stabbing Luling resident

A Bridge City man accused of killing a Luling man who took him in after Hurricane Katrina pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to St. Charles Parish District Attorney Harry Morel Jr.

Jason Pfeil, 33, pleaded guilty to stabbing of Jim Underwood, whose body was found Sept. 22, 2005, about three weeks after his death.

After the killing, Pfeil allegedly stole Underwood’s truck. He was arrested about a month later in Houston.
Authorities say Underwood died of repeated stab wounds, and his throat was slashed after his death.

Judge Kirk Granier took the guilty plea, which means that Pfeil will not be eligible for parole until 85 percent of his sentence is served.
