Brazen gunmen target St. Rose

A 37-year-old LaPlace man told deputies that he was tied up, had a gun put to his head and saw the trigger get pulled twice before the gunman walked away laughing with $630 and credit cards.

The victim is an employee of an apartment complex on East Club Drive in St. Rose and had just returned from a tool shed when he heard a noise coming from the hallway. The LaPlace man told St. Charles Parish sheriff’s deputies that he at first thought the noise was made by a co-worker returning from lunch, but he still went to check anyway.

That’s when he ran into a black male who ordered him to walk to the back bedroom, which was located near the north east corner of the building. The assailant then told the victim to hand over his wallet before tying him up by binding his hands  with plastic zip ties.

After the victim was forced to kneel on the ground, he told deputies that the robber pointed a gun in his face and pulled the trigger two times before laughing and leaving the scene.

A fellow employee returned from his lunch break shortly after and searched the scene for his LaPlace co-worker. When he could not find him, he began shouting his name several times. The victim then screamed out and told his co-worker that he was in the bedroom.

When the man entered the room, he found the victim kneeling against the wall with his hands bound with plastic zip ties. The man then asked his co-worker what he was doing on the floor and, at that point, learned about the robbery.

The man then grabbed a hack saw, cut off the victim’s ties, and called the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived on the scene, the victim told them that he had $630 stolen from his wallet, as well as two Capital One credit cards and an H&R Block tax refund credit card.

The robber has been described as a light-skinned black male who was wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts and what appeared to be black baseball-style batting gloves. The man had short hair, which was similar to an afro hair style.

Six days later, a woman was robbed at 606 East Club Drive when she pulled into the driveway of her home. The woman told sheriff’s deputies that after pulling in, a man pointed a gun at her and ordered her out of the vehicle. The woman noticed two other men nearby that had something covering their faces. The man with the gun then grabbed the woman’s cell phone before all three fled the scene.

“We have stepped up patrols in that area and we are asking people to be careful and park in well lit areas,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange said. “If anyone sees something suspicious, they need to call the Sheriff’s Office.

“We are just glad that nobody was seriously hurt.”

Both incidents are currently under investigation.
