Boutte crash claims life of 39-year-old pedestrian

A fatal crash in Boutte Wednesday night claimed the life of a 39-year-old pedestrian, according to state police.

Christopher Bergeron of Westwego was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 90 and Myrtle St. shortly after 9 p.m., said Louisiana state police spokeswoman Melissa Matey.

Matey said investigating troopers were advised by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office of a possible intoxicated pedestrian in the roadway at the crash location, and upon arriving to the scene, deputies discovered Bergeron had been struck. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Matey said impairment is not suspected for Barbara Jenkins of Brandon, Miss., 57, the driver of the 2012 Lincoln Navigator that struck Bergeron. Jenkins voluntarily submitted a blood sample for a toxicology test.

A toxicology analysis on Bergeron is pending an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation.
