Parish trucks go for as little as a few hundred dollars
Numerous items from vehicles to office furniture and computer hardware will be up for grabs when the parish government holds their annual auction next week.
The auction will take place on June 9 at 8 a.m. at the old Winn-Dixie at 1313 Paul Maillard Rd. in Luling. The public will get a chance to view the items for sale prior to the auction on June 7 and 8 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The parish holds the annual auction to unload items they no longer use. This year they will also be auctioning off items for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, including seized vehicles like a 2001 Mercedes-Benz and an airboat with a minimum starting bid of $10,000.
In addition, the parish is offering items from government offices closed in St. John and St. James Parishes.
“Because of those two offices closing we’ll have more furniture and it will be in a bit better shape than last year,” Parish Procurement Agent Susan Wilson said.
Wilson said last year the auction raised more than $121,000, however, most of that came off of the sale of a mud buggy that went for more than $100,000 on its own.
“The biggest item this year will probably be the airboat,” Wilson said.
Wilson said she also expects the dump trucks to go for higher amounts, but that pickups will range from a few hundred dollars if not running to more than $1,000 if running.
Parish employees were scrambling in the weeks before the auction trying to get as many vehicles running as possible. They said some of them had been sitting idle for up to two years before being started again and that minor repairs to get them in working order would raise the price considerably.
In addition to vehicles and dump trucks numerous pieces of office furniture including desks, chairs, bookshelves, close to 100 computers, laptops and printers will be available. However, all computers are being sold without hard drives.
Tractors, backhoes, excavators, lawn mowers, other outdoor heavy equipment, numerous trailers, cargo containers and various pumps and engine parts will also be up for auction.
