The St. Charles Parish Council has hired an engineering firm to make improvements to Montz park that will initially include ball fields with covered dugouts.
The contract was awarded to SJB Group, LLC., and the council has allocated $350,000 for the initial phases of the project.
The ball fields and covered dugouts are included in a master plan that also calls for an indoor gym, tennis court, covered basketball court and a walking path. For family gatherings, there are plans to have picnic areas with pavilions, barbecue grills, a concession stand, a multi-use field and a meeting room.
The entire project is estimated to cost $3.1 million, but it will be built in phases as funding becomes available.
The design for the park stems from public meetings that were held with area residents, according to Parks and Recreation Director Duane Foret.
The park is located at 17196 LA 628.
