Autopsy identifies body pulled out of river as woman reported missing

An autopsy has confirmed the body found Sunday in the Mississippi River is Larrielles Ross of Vicksburg, Miss. reported missing from a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers barge.

Employees of Magnolia Fleet reported they were on a barge at Mile Post 122 in the Mississippi River when they found a body floating in the water, according to the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office.

Tuesday’s autopsy also confirmed the cause of the 20-year-old’s death is drowning. The Sheriff’s Office says foul play is not suspected in her disappearance.Ross, who was last seen Nov. 1, was reported missing the next day.

Vicksburg District spokesman Greg Raimondo said Ross, an employee in the quarters barge galley for a mat sinking unit, was last seen about 2:30 p.m. last Tuesday and reported missing when she was not found on the barge.

Ross’ parents were notified of her absence and came to the scene.

Raimondo said Corps survey boats with multiple beam sonar capability were brought in to search deep  water for the missing worker.
