Arrest made following attempted St. Rose carjacking

A 16-year-old New Orleans teen has been arrested in connection to an attempted carjacking Sunday evening in St. Rose.

Just after 5 p.m. Sunday, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of the incident, which took place at Pilot Truck Stop on Airline Hwy. The victim, an elderly male, reported that two black males with long hair attempted to steal his car, one of the two armed with a firearm, according to police.

The carjacking was unsuccessful due to the suspects dropping the keys, and the two fled the scene in a dark gray four-door Honda sedan.

No injuries were reported.

Through investigation, detectives determined just one subject, the 16-year-old, was involved and is believed to have committed another carjacking in Jefferson Parish on the morning of the same day. The vehicle the subject was driving when taken into custody was the vehicle from that first incident; the teen was found at McDonald’s in Destrehan.

The juvenile’s parents became aware of the crimes he was involved in and were instrumental in assisting with locating him.

This investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information that may be related to this event is asked to contact Detective Kevin Tennison of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 783- 6807 or (985) 783-1135.
