$3 million, Kelly Clarkson concert up for grabs in school competition

St. Charles Parish high schools and State Farm are joining forces to help promote teenage driver safety through the nationwide competition “Celebrate My Drive.”

Both Destrehan High School and Hahnville High School are campaigning for commitments to not text and drive thereby increasing awareness in the parish and bringing a hometown rivalry to the national competition.

State Farm will distribute a total of $3.25 million to 100 high schools with the most commitments, meaning that the top 10 schools will win $100,000 and 90 others will win $25,000.In addition, two schools will receive a free concert by grammy award-winning star and American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson.

Drivers age 14 and older can register to commit by going to www.celebratemydrive.com and indicating the school they choose to support. Online commitments are made from Oct. 18 through 26. Teens can join the conversation online at www.facebook.com/CelebrateMyDrive.

“Celebrate My Drive” is a State Farm campaign for students and communities to come together to make safe driving commitments online, during National Teen Driver Safety Week Oct. 18 through 26.

The community is invited to the “Celebrate My Drive” event being held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Oc. 26 at the West Bank Bridge Park, 13825 River Road, Luling. The event will feature refreshments, giveaways provided by local State Farm agents and demonstrations from the Louisiana State Police, WalMart, Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force and an awards ceremony through a partnership with the South Central Planning and Development Commission.
