HHS Grad awarded math scholarship

James Michael Bell, a 2010 graduate of Hahnville High School, was the recipient of the 2010 Carol Meyer Memorial Scholarship. The Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics established this scholarship to support high school seniors. The selected student always demonstrates a commitment to mathematics and mathematics education. Michael is currently attending Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. and studying physics and mathematics.

 

Bayou Queen crowned

Jaclyn Sutton of Hahnville was crowned the 2010 Miss Bayou Cajuns. The Bayou Cajuns are a chapter of the Cajun French Music Association.

 

Local named to 4-H hall of fame

A dozen new members of the Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame were recognized at a ceremony in August at the Louisiana 4-H Museum for their years of service to 4-H clubs across the state. Included in those inducted was Mamie McMillion of St. Charles Parish.

So far, 124 people have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Their photographs and biographical sketches are part of a Hall of Fame exhibit at the museum.

 

Local Teacher named “true Saint”

Merlyna Adams, principal of St. Rose Elementary School, was honored as a “True Saint” on The Sean Payton Show.  Merlyna was selected from thousands of nominees to receive the honor.  In addition to being highlighted on the show, she was a guest at the Saints’ game versus Atlanta.
