St. Charles BorromeoSt. Charles Borromeo School in Destrehan recently held its eighth Grade Graduation.

Perfect Attendance Awards were presented to Chelsea Boudreaux for six consecutive years of perfect attendance and Alvin Robinson III for two consecutive years of perfect attendance.

Caitin Dupuy was presented The Daughters of the American Revolution Award by Rosa Songey of the Vieux Carre Chapter.

This medal is presented for outstanding behavior, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism.

Nick Corzo and Megan Louque were the 2007 recipients of the American Legion Auxiliary 366 Award.

This award is presented to the outstanding boy and girl graduates who best exemplified the values of courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and service.

The Knights of Columbus Leadership Award was presented by Warren Louque to Kayla Smith.

Corzo received the school’s Merit Award for achieving the highest overall grade point average for this school year.

Smith received the school’s Honor Award for achieving the second highest overall grade point average for this school year.

Hahnville High

Congratulations to HHS Student, Richard Blue, Jr. for being selected to attend the 2007 National Honor Guard Academy.

It will be a two week camp in Baltimore, Maryland.

Richard is the only one in the state of Louisiana to attend this National Activity.

He will be trained by the United States Air Force Honor Guard in three of the four elements of the Honor Guard: Ceremonial/Demonstration, Colors Element and Funeral Element.

The Academy is conducted once a year by Civil Air Patrol and the U.S. Air Force.

Richard is the son of Stacy and Richard Blue of Boutte.

HHS Senior, Kali Ann Brou was named the recipient of the 2007 Robert C. Menezes, Sr. Memorial Community Scholarship on graduation night, May 18, at Hahnville High School’s graduation ceremony held in the John A. Alario Center in Westwego, Louisiana.

The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated leadership abilities, academic achievement, and contributions to the local community.

The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior selected by the school and is in memory of Bob Menezes, who was coach and later principal of Hahnville High School for twenty years until his death from cancer in 1975.

“Ms. Brou is quite a remarkable student, school leader and community volunteer. She has excelled in everything she has become involved in whether it be in the classroom, on the student council or in her church,” said Doris Menezes, widow of the late principal and coach, who made the presentation of the award.

“We are honored to award this scholarship to such a wonderful and gifted young lady. We’re pleased to become part of her continuing education as she attends college.”

Brou was a member of the Dance Team for four years, receiving the “Most Inspirational” dance team member award. She mentored students as a “Big Sister”, was a volunteer in the Hurricane Relief efforts, the Buddy Walk for Down’s Syndrome, and the St. Charles Women’s Club Teacup Auction. She actively participated in community activities through her church, being on the Holy Family Leadership Team, serving on the Holy Family Youth Group Core Team, and participating in Teen Catholics Reaching Out in Selfless Service.

She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Tina Brou of Luling.

Kali plans to attend Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond where she is a scholarship recipient, and pursue a degree in elementary education.

College & University

Devin James Naquin, of Bayou Gauche, graduated May 12 from Rice University in Houston.

Devin has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He is employed as a Geophysicist for CGGVeritas in Houston, Texas.

Devin graduated as salutatorian of the Hahnville High School Class of 2003.

Devin is the son of Randy and Dwynne Naquin of Bayou Gauche and the grandson of Virgie Naquin of Des Allemands.
