Air National Guard Airman Ashley N. Batiste graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an Associate’s Degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force.
She is the niece of Lynette Houston of Mockingbird Lane in St. Rose, and cousin of Derrick Parker.

 

HHS students place in literature contest
Congratulations to Hahnville High School students David Angeles, Malerie Dempster, Tyler Lirette, Craig Richard, Ellen Suss and Leighton Webre who placed among 81 finalists in Louisiana out of more than 1,000 entries in the 2010-2011 Letters about Literature contest.

Their entries were submitted by the State Library of Louisiana to the Center for the Book’s Letters about Literature national headquarters, which received a grand total of more than 69,000 letters this year.

To enter the Letters about Literature contest, students wrote a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre explaining how that author’s work changed their way of thinking about themselves or the world and how the chosen books impacted their life or worldview.

 

Students win silver, bronze at literary rally
Congratulations to Hahnville High School students Sam Eastepp and Derek Walker who placed at the state Literary Rally at LSU.

Eastepp placed 3rd in St. Charles’ Division for psychology and Walker placed 2nd in St. Charles’ Division for Algebra 2.

 

Destrehan native earns degree from McNeese
Local Kameron Devin Anderson graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles this spring with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
