United Way of St. Charles holds largest campaign in 60-year history, raises $2.8 million

United Way of St. Charles announced at their Victory Celebration on March 12, having raised $329,614 more than this time last year.

“To date, United Way of St. Charles has raised a total of $2.833,169,” said Travis Chiasson, UWSC Campaign co-chair for 2014-15. “This is a substantial increase from last year’s campaign, as well as the largest fundraising campaign in the organization’s 60 year history.” In addition to Chiasson of Norco Manufacturing Complex, other 2014-15 Campaign co-chairs include Felecia Gomez-Walker, superintendent of St. Charles Parish Public Schools, and Heather Lyons of Dow St. Charles Operations.

The Victory Celebration, held at Cypress Lakes Country Club in Destrehan, announced the accomplishments of United Way of St. Charles’ annual campaign and recognized companies with success in their workplace campaigns.

“United Way of St. Charles would like to thank all the local industries, businesses, and individuals for their hard work in making this campaign a success,” said Lyons, 2014-15 campaign co-chair, as she addressed the audience of company leaders and campaign coordinators.

“You all should be very proud.”

Companies such as Valero St. Charles Refinery, Norco Manufacturing Complex, Rain CII Carbon, Dow St. Charles Operations, Entergy Waterford 3, Monsanto, Cornerstone Chemical Company, OxyChem, ARTCo, Hexion, ADM and Zachary received top honors for success in campaign improvement, employee per capita giving, corporate giving, percent participation, and leadership giving.

Also recognized at the celebration were the non-industry campaigns of St. Charles Parish Public Schools, St. Charles Community Health Center, AM/PM Staffing Services, St. Charles Parish Hospital, First National Bank, St. Charles Parish Government, United Way of St. Charles, Rotary Club of St. Charles Parish, and St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Newcomer’s Award in recognition of companies that conducted a campaign for the first time in 2014 was presented to IMTT and St. Charles Printing/Fast Signs. The Excellence in Partnership Award was presented to Arc of St. Charles, Alpha Daughters of Zion, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, CADA, Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans, Catholic Charities, Child Advocacy Services, Creative Family Solutions, Crisis Assistance Program, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Girl Scouts, Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center, Metro Center for Women, Norco Adult Day Care, Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, River Region Drama Guild, St. Charles Parish 4-H Clubs, St.

Charles Community Health Center, St. Charles Parish Council on Aging, St. Charles Parish Hospital Auxiliary, TRIAD-St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, VIA Link 2-1-1, and Volunteers of America in celebration of United Way of St. Charles partner agencies who conduct a campaign.

Valero was awarded the highest honor of the night, receiving the UWSC Spirit Award in recognition of the best overall United Way campaign. In 2014-2015, Valero St. Charles Operations raised over $989,686 for United Way.

United Way of St. Charles is a non-profit organization working to create lasting changes in St. Charles Parish by funding local agencies and developing programs that target education, income and health.
