United Way fundraising efforts off to quick start in first quarter

At their victory celebration held in early March, the United Way of St. Charles announced they have raised $91,483 more than this time last year.

“To date, United Way of St. Charles has raised a total of $2,434,504. This is a large increase from last year’s campaign as well as the largest fundraising campaign in the organization’s history,” Fred Martinez, UWSC campaign co-chair for 2012-2013, said.

The victory celebration, held at Ormond Plantation in Destrehan, announced the accomplishments of United Way of St. Charles’ Annual Campaign and recognized companies with success in their workplace campaigns.

Quinn Landry, 2012-2013 campaign co-chair, addressed the audience of company leaders and campaign coordinators.

“United Way of St. Charles would like to thank all the local industries, businesses and individuals for their hard work in making this campaign a success. You all should be very proud,” Landry said.

Companies such as Valero St. Charles Refinery, Norco Manufacturing Complex, Rain CII Carbon, Dow St. Charles Operations, Entergy Waterford 3, Monsanto, Cornerstone Chemical Company, OxyChem, Archer Daniels Midland, Momentives and Zachry received top honors for success in campaign improvement, employee per capita giving, corporate giving, percent participation and leadership giving.

Also recognized at the Victory Celebration were the non-industry campaigns of St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Community Health Center, AM/PM Staffing Services, Catholic Charities, Creative Family Solutions, St. Charles Parish Clerk of Court, Willbros Engineers, St. Charles Hospital, First National Bank, St. Charles Parish Council on Aging, J&K Office Supplies, St. Charles Parish Government, United Way of St. Charles and St. Charles Parish Public Schools.

The Newcomer’s Award in recognition of companies who conducted a campaign for the first time in 2012 was presented to ARTCo and Falk Renew Prager. In celebration of United Way of St. Charles partner agencies who conduct a campaign, the Excellence in Partnership Award was presented to Arc of St. Charles, Alpha Daughters of Zion, Boy Scouts, CADA, Catholic Charities, Child Advocacy Services, Creative Family Solutions, Girl Scouts, Metro Center for Women, St. Charles Community Health Center and St. Charles Parish Council on Aging.

Valero was awarded the highest honor receiving the UWSC Spirit Award, which recognizes the best overall United Way campaign. In 2012-2013, Valero St. Charles Operations raised over $906,000 for United Way.

United Way of St. Charles is a non-profit organization, which works to create lasting changes in St. Charles Parish by funding local agencies and developing programs that target education, income and health.
